This very quote was proven true by a group of Argentinian beachgoers who saved a trio of swimmers from strong currents destined to sweep the swimmers out to sea.

A brilliant idea formed quickly when beachgoers realized the swimmers had only a few moments to be saved. Lifeguards were struggling to bring in the struggling swimmers, so observers formed a human chain to bring in swimmers and lifeguards alike.

The riptides and currents are strong on the shores of Argentina, however, the human capacity to think, cooperate and save is greater.
